Early this month (October 5), the Education Departments of Governments worldwide spearheaded the celebration of the World Teachers’ Day (WTD) in their own special ways. WTD is an annual celebration to raise awareness, specifically to remind everyone of the crucial role played by the teachers in the community and the global society. It also gives us, parents and students, the opportunity to pay tribute to our mentors and our teachers for their hard work and dedication and for spending a big chunk of their lives in school. Expressing our appreciations to our teachers every year would boost their confidence to even more provide quality education to all.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared the 5th of October as World Teachers’ Day. The theme for the 2014 World Teachers’ Day is “Invest in the future, Invest in Teachers.”
In the Philippines, the Department of Education in collaboration with its education private partners celebrated the World Teachers Day not only for a day but for a month with various activities and programs recognizing the teachers’ efforts not only in Metro Manila but also in other regions, provinces and far-flung areas. DEC’s Secretary Br. Armin Luistro FSC emphasized the substantial contributions of the teachers in shaping young minds to become better individuals, no matter what challenges and obstacles they have encountered.
At SSJB, the Principal and the teachers silently celebrated the World Teachers’ Day with their respective students and among themselves. The school administration and students surprised their teachers by giving them a short well deserved break, appreciating their efforts, offering them flowers and with a short program and a prayer. Theirs may not have been a lavish and pompous gathering to celebrate the event for the teachers unwavering service and valuable efforts, but the fact that they were able to help instill confidence in their students and motivate them to be their best is all worth it. It was recognized that despite the School’s budgetary constraints, the teachers at SSJB still persevere by exerting double effort in educating young minds in all subject areas and developing religious, personal and moral values in their lives, surpassing the call of a teacher’s duty.
To the teachers throughout the globe, Happy World Teachers’ Day!
To our teachers at SSJB, may you continue to be blessed with kind hearts and heroic deeds to help your School in providing quality education to its students, at the same time inculcating the spiritual and moral aspects of life. Happy World Teachers’ Day and wishing you all the best of everything!
